Web 2.0 Educator
For my 2.o educator I chose Wesley Fryer. I chose Mr. Fryer because he was first on the list and would probably have lots of information, of course this is dangerous because that means that Dr. Theresa has probably read or heard everything I would be blogging about. Mr. Fryer is the author of Moving at the Speed of Creativity and has over 1400 readers on his blog. He has received the 2006 Best Learning Blog from eSchool News and Discovery Education and the Apple Distinguished Educator in 2005. His main focus in not only on the integration of the classroom but also the safety of kids on the internet and developing a clear plan for the future adaptation of technology in the schools and progressing that forward to the workplace. One of his latest innovations is to utilize a web broadcast of questions from students regarding technology and technology applications which he has termed Digital Citizenship. After listening to the questions and reponses it is clear that this is an initiative that is needed and will provide a good learning experience for the students asking questions as well as others that go in and listen to the responses.
One of the more interesting posts regarding technology was regarding a funeral that he attended. The gentleman, Fred, was 96 and a close family friend, he commented on how he really did not know anyone that had lived that long. The interesting technology came in when he mentioned that his parents had recorded an oral history from Fred that was over an hour and a half. With the rapid number of World War II veterans dying every day this is an excellent tool to ensure that we can preserve this rich history and ensure that many generations to come have the opportunity to learn this information from a primary source.
